Affectionate Couple Holds Hands During Wedding Ceremony

Last Updated on 19 May 2026 by Dave King

Brighton has more interesting wedding venues than most cities its size. The problem is that most guides to wedding venues in Brighton are written by photographers trying to sell you their services, so you get the same list of venues with the same flattering descriptions and no mention of cost, capacity limits or whether the venue is actually licensed for a legal ceremony. This guide covers the wedding venues in Brighton and Hove that are worth knowing about, with verified prices where available, honest notes on what each one is and is not good for, and the practical legal steps to get married here.

The Venues

Here are the wedding venues in Brighton worth knowing about, starting with the most affordable.

Brighton Town Hall

Brighton Town Hall on Bartholomew Square is Brighton’s register office and the most affordable way to get legally married in the city. The building is Grade II listed, built in 1830, and sits right in the heart of the Lanes. It has four ceremony rooms of different sizes.

The Regency Room on the ground floor is the most popular. It seats up to 46, has herringbone flooring and a feature fireplace, and opens directly onto Bartholomew Square for confetti photos. The Council Chamber on the second floor is the largest room, seating up to 80 with oak panelling and a formal atmosphere. The Fitzherbert Room is a small ground-floor room for up to 10 guests, good for elopements. The Floral Room is the most intimate, fitting the couple plus four guests.

Weekday ceremonies in the Regency Suite start from £350 Monday to Thursday. The Council Chamber starts from £770 Monday to Thursday. Friday, weekend and bank holiday prices are higher. All fees include two registrars, two statutory marriage certificates and a Brighton and Hove celebratory certificate.

The Town Hall also offers a live streaming service called “wedcast” so guests who cannot attend can watch remotely, with six weeks of viewing access.

Royal Pavilion

The Royal Pavilion is the most distinctive wedding venue in Brighton. There is nothing else like it in the country. It is licensed for civil ceremonies and offers several rooms at very different price points.

The Red Drawing Room holds up to 44 seated guests and is available for daytime and evening ceremonies. It has its own private entrance from the Regency Garden, which gives it an exclusive feel. Ceremony hire is £1,100 for one hour. The Music Room is the showstopper, with a gilded dome ceiling and nine lotus-shaped chandeliers. It holds up to 90 guests and is available for evening ceremonies. Ceremony hire is £2,800. A one-hour drinks reception before or after the ceremony costs £1,800.

For a full ceremony and reception, the Red Drawing Room ceremony with a King William IV or Adelaide Room reception costs £3,150 for five hours. The top-tier State Rooms package (Music Room ceremony, Great Kitchen reception and Banqueting Room dinner from 6:30pm) is £7,920. Reception-only hire in the King William IV or Red Drawing Room is £2,050 for five hours.

Important to know: dancing is not permitted in the Banqueting Room due to the historic fabric of the building. All civil ceremonies are performed by Brighton and Hove Register Office, and their fees are charged separately on top of the venue hire. The Pavilion works with approved caterers only.

These prices are for April 2026 to March 2027. Check the current fee sheet for the latest.

The Grand Brighton

The Grand Brighton on King’s Road is the biggest and most established wedding hotel in Brighton. It has been on the seafront since 1864 and has four fully licensed private event spaces for ceremonies and receptions.

The hotel can host anything from small ceremonies to receptions for up to 500 in the Empress Suite. The suite can be divided into four interflowing spaces for smaller weddings of 150 or more. There is also a seafront terrace for photos and drinks. The hotel provides in-house catering, accommodation for guests, and a dedicated wedding coordinator.

The Grand does not publish fixed prices online. Contact the wedding team on 01273 224300 or email grand.conference@leonardohotels.com for availability and quotes. If you are considering The Grand for a stay rather than a wedding, there is a separate review on this site.

Fabrica

Fabrica at 40 Duke Street is a former Regency church built in 1817, now used as a contemporary art gallery. It is one of the most interesting reception venues in Brighton: a completely blank canvas with a 10.5-metre ceiling, stained glass windows, wooden columns and an overhead balcony. It holds up to 130 standing or 110 seated for a meal.

Fabrica is not licensed for ceremonies. Most couples have their legal ceremony at Brighton Town Hall and then walk to Fabrica for the reception. The venue is a five-minute walk from the Town Hall.

The wedding package is based on a three-day hire: Friday for setup, Saturday for the party (4pm to midnight, with supplier access from 2pm), and Monday for clearing. You bring your own caterers and decorators. Fabrica provides an event manager, bar staff, a fire steward and security. Packages start from £3,750 + VAT.

Fabrica is LGBTQ+ and multi-faith friendly. Weddings are available in limited months, so book well in advance.

Brighton Bandstand

The Brighton Bandstand on the seafront between the two piers is licensed for outdoor wedding ceremonies. It seats up to 50 guests and offers panoramic sea views as a backdrop.

This is a weather-dependent option. The council says the café can accommodate a maximum of 25 people if the ceremony needs to move because of weather, so check the wet-weather plan before booking. Contact Brighton and Hove ceremonies team to check availability and pricing. A Temporary Event Notice may be required depending on what else you are planning around the ceremony.

Location: King’s Road seafront, between the two piers

Pangdean Barn

Pangdean Barn is a countryside wedding venue about five miles north of Brighton on the edge of the South Downs. It has a large stone barn lit by fairy lights with space for up to 190 guests, plus gardens for outdoor ceremonies and drinks receptions. It is licensed for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies.

This is the option for anyone who wants a barn wedding close to Brighton without going deep into Sussex. Contact the venue directly for current pricing and availability.

Location: Pangdean, near Pyecombe, approximately 5 miles north of Brighton

Other Venues Worth Knowing

Happy Authentic Candid Couple In Love

Pier Court (formerly Patterns) is a nightclub venue opposite Brighton Pier with an art deco interior. It is not licensed for ceremonies but works as a reception space for up to 200 standing or 85 seated. Affordable and fun, but you will need your ceremony elsewhere.

Stanmer House in Stanmer Park offers a more traditional country house setting with South Downs views. Licensed for ceremonies, with drawing rooms and gardens available.

The Seahorse on Brighton seafront is a restaurant licensed for legal ceremonies with beach views. Good for smaller, food-focused weddings.

Hotel du Vin on Ship Street in the Lanes is licensed for ceremonies and offers all-in-one wedding packages with in-house catering and accommodation. There is a separate guide to Brighton hotels on this site.

The Legal Requirements

To get married in Brighton, both partners must give notice at their local register office at least 29 days before the ceremony, but no more than 12 months in advance. You must have lived in your registration district for at least nine days before giving notice. If you and your partner live in different districts, you each give notice separately.

The cost of giving notice is £46.50 per person. You will need your passport or birth certificate and proof of address. The ceremony must then take place within 12 months of giving notice.

If you are having a ceremony at an approved venue rather than the Town Hall, you still need to book registrars through the council. Registrar fees are separate from venue hire fees. The council’s full list of approved venues in Brighton and Hove is available on their website.

Practical Tips

Book early. Popular summer dates at the Royal Pavilion and Fabrica fill up well in advance. If you want a specific Saturday between May and September, start looking at least a year ahead.

Ceremony and reception can be different venues. Many couples have the legal ceremony at the Town Hall, with a limited Wednesday Bijou slot from £195 for the smallest room or £350 for the Regency Suite Monday to Thursday, and then host the reception at Fabrica, a pub, a restaurant or a hired space. This is significantly cheaper than hiring a fully licensed venue for the whole day and gives you more flexibility.

Parking. Brighton parking is expensive and limited. If you are inviting guests who are driving, check what parking is available near your venue and include that information in your invitations. The NCP at Regency Square and Churchill Square are the closest to most central venues.

Accommodation. If guests are staying overnight, there is a guide to Brighton hotels on this site covering options from seafront luxury to Kemptown boutiques.

FAQs

How much does it cost to get married in Brighton?

A limited Wednesday Bijou ceremony at Brighton Town Hall starts from £195 for the smallest room, or £350 for the Regency Suite Monday to Thursday. The Royal Pavilion starts from £1,100 for a ceremony in the Red Drawing Room. Fabrica reception packages start from £3,750 + VAT. The Grand Brighton provides quotes on request. Adding registrar fees, catering, photography and everything else, a Brighton wedding typically costs between £10,000 and £30,000 depending on your choices.

Can I get married on Brighton Beach?

Not directly on the beach itself, but the Brighton Bandstand on the seafront is licensed for outdoor ceremonies. It seats up to 50 guests with sea views. Some seafront venues like The Seahorse and OhSo also offer beach-adjacent settings.

What is the most affordable wedding venue in Brighton?

Brighton Town Hall. A limited Wednesday Bijou ceremony starts from £195 for the smallest room, or £350 for the Regency Suite Monday to Thursday, and includes registrars and certificates. Combine that with a reception at a hired pub, restaurant or Fabrica for a complete wedding without a massive venue bill.

Do I need to live in Brighton to get married here?

No. You can get married at any licensed venue in England and Wales regardless of where you live. However, you must give notice at your own local register office at least 29 days before the ceremony and have lived in that district for at least nine days.

What is the best wedding venue in Brighton for a large wedding?

The Grand Brighton can host up to 500 guests in the Empress Suite, making it the largest of the wedding venues in Brighton. Pangdean Barn holds up to 190. The Royal Pavilion’s Banqueting Room seats 90 for dinner or up to 150 standing. For most other Brighton venues, 130 is the practical maximum.

Final Thoughts

Couple Holding Hands At Wedding

The best wedding venues in Brighton depend on what kind of day you want. The Town Hall is the most affordable and sits right in the Lanes. The Royal Pavilion is unlike anything else in the country. The Grand is the classic seafront hotel wedding. Fabrica is for creative couples who want a blank canvas. The Bandstand is for anyone brave enough to bet on British weather. And Pangdean gives you a countryside barn five miles from the city centre.

Start with whether you want your ceremony and reception in one place or split across two venues. That single decision shapes your budget, your venue options and how the day feels. Most wedding venues in Brighton are within walking distance of each other, which makes splitting venues easier here than almost anywhere else.
